Biography

ALASKA RANGE was founded 1966 by three pupils in Horgen/Switzerland. Herbert de Mont (guitar, flute), Heinz Kleiner (bass) and Roland Eggli (drums) wanted to have some fun and tried to experiment. Several gigs at youth center and schooltreats followed and they could reach for some prices during several nationwide music competitions later on. Eggli was honoured to be the best swiss drummer and ALASKA RANGE played many gigs as the supporting act for bands from England and the Netherlands.

At the end of 1970 they recorded their one and only release at Osnabrück/Germany, a 7'' with the two songs 'Castles in the air' and 'Daybreak'. It shows the band proceeding from the 60s rock'n'roll and blues to krautrock with flute additions and psychedelic elements. Plans about a collaboration with a dutch vocalist failed 1971 because of some juristic restrictions. And for the same year the members were unhappily forced to join the army whereas Eggli and Kleiner were lucky to be disbanded soon but de Mont had to stay for the whole time. This was the end of the band.

Kleiner and Eggli joined the swiss band TEA afterwards and cherished good relations to the hard rock band KROKUS. 'Roli' Eggli is still known as one of the best swiss drummer and actually playing with the cover band CALLAWAY.

ALASKA RANGE's tracks can be checked out digitally remastered due to the sampler 'Psychedelic Gems 2' which was released by the Garden Of Delights label.
