Biography
Ancient North is an American black metal band founded in 2022 in Newport, Oregon, by Forlorn Blacktooth (Barak Daniels). Originally conceived as a one-man project, Ancient North later evolved into a full band while continuing to be driven by Forlorn's creative vision.
Featuring an intentionally raw and old-school production, Ancient North draws heavy inspiration from the second wave of Norwegian black metal, particularly the early trilogy of Darkthrone, as well as the classic sound of Gorgoroth, Ancient, Kvist, and Troll. Their music pays homage to the cold, grim, and uncompromising spirit of the early 1990s black metal underground.

Lyrically, Ancient North explores themes of Satanism, the afterlife, mysticism, dark fantasy, and anti-Christian ideology, embracing the traditional aesthetics and atmosphere of classic black metal.
Although the band remains independent, its acclaimed debut album, The Gates (2022), received physical CD and vinyl releases through Iron Bonehead Productions, helping establish Ancient North within the international underground black metal scene.
With prolific releases such as The Gates (2022), The Nine Realms (2022), The Dark Ages (2024), Winter Holocaust (2024), and The Woods of Samael (2025), Ancient North continues to uphold a dark, atmospheric, and uncompromising vision rooted in the traditions of classic black metal.
