David was chosen to fill in for Jon Anderson on the group's 40th anniversary tour in 2008 when the group's founding vocalist could not participate due to health reasons. David was named a full member in 2009 and performed vocals on the 2011 release Fly From Here. David remained lead singer of Mystery during his time with Yes.
In February 2012, after contracting a respiratory illness, David was replaced by Glass Hammer vocalist Jon Davison who, like David, was discovered while fronting a Yes cover band.
