Biography

Brassly formed in Chicago in 2025, and like most things worth keeping, it wasn't entirely planned. Maren Ellis and Miles Fenn had been making music together since their teenage years — rehearsals in basements, late nights workshopping songs too ambitious for the bands they were in. Miles spent two years at a conservatory before walking away with exactly what he needed: a deeper harmonic vocabulary, and Owen Callahan, a drummer whose pocket makes everyone around him play better without knowing why. Ida Crane came from the Pacific Northwest after one cold outreach and one session that made the decision obvious. Sam Rowe covered a show on thirty minutes' notice, locked in with Owen like they'd been playing together for years, and never really left. Ted Harrison, Louis Jefferson, and Craig Miller completed the brass section — three Illinois musicians who turned the horn arrangements from session work into the emotional nervous system of every song. Eight people, three cities, one sound that took about forty minutes to find. Brassly plays funk-soul pop with the precision of musicians who grew up on jazz and the instincts of people who've spent too many nights in small rooms with loud crowds. The horns aren't decoration. The music is warm, upbeat, and emotionally honest — the kind that makes you feel something before you understand what it is.
