Biography

BRETT VOGEL is an accomplished singer/songwriter who has performed throughout the United States and has opened for acts Cory Chisel and The Wandering Sons, Collective Soul, and Flickerstick. Based in Los Angeles, CA, Vogel is a dynamic and distinct vocalist, songwriter, and guitarist. Vogel's voice has been compared to the late Jeff Buckley and Van Morrison. Brett Vogel was born in Rockford, IL and grew up listening to his Father's records and was introduced to The Beatles, Crosby Stills and Nash, Paul Simon, Jim Croce and many others at a young age. He purchased his first guitar when he was 17 after being inspired by The Dave Matthews Band. Vogel would hone his craft for 4 to 5 hours per day and sometimes play until his fingers bled. Within 9 months Vogel had written 4 original songs and teamed up with local guitarist/producer Jon Miller. Together the two recorded a demo of Vogel's four original songs and formed the acoustic/rock group Berkley's Dream. The project was short lived as Vogel would venture to Eastern Illinois University for 4 years where he would earn his bachelors degree in Finance. During his time at Eastern, Vogel also found his voice while singing in the college choir for 4 years. Although he now had a degree in finance, the idea of a life behind a desk was not appealing to him. Upon his return from college, Vogel took a summer job waiting tables in Wisconsin Dells, WI. It was there where he fine tuned songs that had been written during his college years in an old dance studio. Vogel returned to Rockford with a small amount of money in hopes of recording his first full length album. As luck might have it, Vogel serendipitously met producer Nicholas Gunn while performing at an open mic night at Kryptonite in Rockford, IL. Vogel's first album "Lonely Traveler" was released a short 6 months later to much fan fare and local critical acclaim. Vogel now resides in Los Angeles, CA where he has performed at various venues including: The House of Blues, The Mint, The Key Club, and Ghengis Cohen. As previously mentioned, his album "Lonely Traveler" received critical acclaim and his song "No Grace is Goodbyes" won a RAMI award for record of the year. Vogel is currently writing a book and recording songs for his sophomore album. The two will be released concurrently in early 2013.
