Bwire

Biography

Bwire has been founded by Wiebe Koopmans and Remco Bootsma. They started off playing covers but soon their own songs emerged. As an acoustic duo they recorded their first demo called “tuning” in February/March 2007. At the Frisian singer/songwriter contest in April 2007 they ended 3rd, but according jury member Daan Levy “with maybe the best songs of the evening but no singer/songwriter songs”. Because of their own sound it’s difficult to put Bwire in a specific genre. Due to their performance at this contest, Remco and Wiebe were invited to play a live session at Radio Fryslan in June 2007. This was done with the first new band member Bas Brekelmans. He was asked to come and play because Remco and Wiebe felt that their songs needed some body. In August 2007 Remco, Wiebe and Bas played as a support act for William seen’s transport music, which were promoting their upcoming album with a short tour in Holland. Also in August Wiebe and Remco played another live set at Radio Fryslan, during a big event in Fryslan called Skûtsjesilen. After this gig, Remco’s cousin Johannes joined the band on keybord and an other direction was found, still building their unique sound Bwire was now also actively searching for a drummer. Eventually René Schaap was contacted, an old youth friend of Wiebe. The former drummer of cover band Red Haze was very enthusiastic when he heard Bwire’s sound for the first time and was very willing to join Bwire. In October 2007 Wiebe and Remco supported Chris Chameleon at a gig in Drachten. This South African singer/songwriter and former front man of the punk band BOO! was touring Holland to promote his 4th album “Ek vir jou”. This gig was noted by VPRO’s 3 voor 12 and a very positive review about Bwire was posted on their website. Bwire is presently working on new material as a band and the first material can be expected very soon. Also live gigs will be given shortly so the world can finally enjoy the unique sound of
