Biography

Cam Lasky is a masked artist working across techno and generative art, and the central artist of KWAIOTO, a cross-disciplinary artistic platform operated by DJs & associates LLC. For around nine years Cam Lasky has performed and appeared only behind a mask, keeping their identity undisclosed; in live footage the artist appears as a black silhouette.

Cam Lasky's work is rooted in the concept of Umwelt, as defined by biologist Jakob von Uexküll: the idea that every living being inhabits its own perceived world. This idea ran through UMWELT, a long-running series that translated Daisuke Igarashi's manga Designs into music and reached its ninth volume.

Much of Cam Lasky's recent output takes the form of "Sonic Architecture" installations, in which each release is built from a literary source and paired with generative visuals made in TouchDesigner. The music deliberately avoids real-world recordings and samples; sounds and voices described in the source texts are always reinterpreted as synthetic sound rather than reproduced. Two strands run in parallel:

Quiet Tech Noir — THE UNWORTHY (Sonic Architecture Installation No.3), based on Agustina Bazterrica's novel The Unworthy. Part 1 (KWO437) has been released; Part 2 (KWO439) is in production.

External Tech Noir — ANGEL DOWN, based on Daniel Kraus's novel Angel Down, comprising ELAN and THE GAFF. THE GAFF was made with Kyoto-based saxophonist Ayami Inokawa, with each track issued as an Original Mix and an "Ayami Inokawa ReTold" version. The next chapter, ANGEL DOWN: MERCY SEAT, is a full collaboration credited to Cam Lasky and Ayami Inokawa.

The visuals for these works are made with the Fragments Shift System (FSS), a method developed within the project, whose core principle is "destroy the image, but do not allow it to forget." Public-domain photographs are broken apart into generative motion without animating or artificially reconstructing the original image, and the source photograph is always credited, however unrecognisable it becomes.

Beyond releases, Cam Lasky performs live in physical, streamed and XR formats, including the "Cinestream Live" performance METROPOLIS BEYOND on YouTube, takes part in contemporary art competitions and festivals, and publishes essays on the thinking behind the work on Substack.

Cam Lasky is a member of JASRAC.
