Charlie Mason
Biography
Charlie Mason may well be the idiot savant of the music industry. He can’t sing (and, lucky for you, knows it), doesn’t play an instrument, and he isn’t even the bastard grandson of a Rolling Stone or the trouble-magnet ex-boyfriend of a Hollywood starlet. But give him a topline and tell him to write you lyrics that reverberate with passion and wit, and, sometimes in as little as a couple of hours, he’ll blow your mind. Whatever the genre, whatever the style, he aims to please, and his aim is very, very good.
In the last couple of years, the New Orleans native has scored co-writes with, among others, PJ Bianco (who hit No. 1 with the Jonas Bros.), Aussie hitmaker Hayden Bell, Johan Aberg (of Christina Aguilera fame) and Westlife producer Niklas Jarl, and has heard his material recorded by artists as varied as American Idol’s Sarah Burgess, Monrose (Germany’s No. 1 girl group), BoA (the Asian Britney Spears), Danny Saucedo (the Swedish Idol sex symbol), Sergey Lazarev (the Russian heartthrob), Ketnet Band (the Dutch pop-rockers), DCX (the Finnish dance sensation) and Kerry Butler (the scene-stealing star of the Broadway smash Xanadu).

Currently, he is also working with and developing material for up-and-coming artists such as Jonathan Fagerlund (the ex-Streetwize member whose debut album has been cut by Celine Dion/Bon Jovi producer Samuel Waermo), The Provider (Sweden’s new ace of bass), Cosmo4 (Sweden’s answer to the Pussycat Dolls), Switch 22 (the UK’s electropop superheroes), Donal Skehan (Ireland’s Zac Effron) and English boy band Billiam, who scored their first Top 40 hit with his co-write, “Beautiful Ones. On the horizon are releases by Monrose, UK boy wonder Luigi Masi, dancing queen Sonya Sky and former Sylver lead singer Silvy.
In his spare time, the lyricist, now part of New York City’s exotic bridge-and-tunnel crowd, has freelanced as an entertainment writer for national magazines including Seventeen, Time Out New York, TV Guide and In Touch; appeared as a talking head on VH1 and SoapNet programs; and written three screenplays and what is poised to become Broadway’s first mix-tape musical. His goal in life is to have the option of spending all day, every day, locked in a room with a view of his platinum records writing one lyric after another, occasionally taking breaks to play with the pets he looks forward to rescuing from animal shelters.
