Biography

Check 1-2 (or The Check 1-2 in later years) was a contemporary 'sixties' garage band from Amsterdam, The Netherlands.

The band members knew each other well when they formed Check 1-2 in 2005: they were all in The Skidmarks, Check 1-2's predecessor. Influenced by their musical hero Greg Cartwright (of Reigning Sound) their sound got a more soulful and rootsy sixties feel.

Their début LP, Check 1-2, was released by Munich Records in January 2007. They opened for the Arctic Monkeys in Utrecht and toured Spain.

From 2009 'til 2011 Check 1-2 were on hiatus as drummer Peter van Rijn had moved to the U.S. In the summer of 2011 drummer Benny Olgers joined the Check 1-2 ranks. The band recorded music for the documentary 'In Mijn Hoofd', which premiered at the Cinekid Festival and was also programmed at Amsterdam's IDFA documentary film festival that year. In 2012 drummer Peter van Rijn returned from the U.S. and in the band.

Finally, in 2014 The Check 1-2 had written and recorded twelve songs for their second album, Bring It All Down, which came out in April 2015 on Crash Records, as well as on the Spanish label FOLC Records, owned by infamous party punkers Los Chicos.

The Check 1-2 silently called it quits without really calling it quits. They did a one-off reunion gig in 2022 in Amsterdam. They don't really have any plans at this point.
