Cyanbaal is a German-American electro dark wave project founded in 2014 by Patrick M. Wenzel, also known as Georg Kasperski. Zattna Uhm was a part-time member from 2015 to 2019. Since 2020, singer Haether Wayward has been a member of the project. Since 2021, Rob Early (11Grams) has been a live support act for their US tours.
While the first releases (Madame Degradation EP, Living Tunnel Album) were very dark and experimental, over time clear, sometimes catchy, danceable song structures also became established.
Patrick M. Wenzel's interest in various electronic music genres and his experimental approach result in highly diverse and varied songs in terms of structure, composition, and mood. This also makes it difficult to definitively assign Cyanbaal to a single genre.
From exciting electronic arrangements reminiscent of 80s New Wave/Dark Wave, to deep, dark, sometimes sterile, cold sounds that lean towards Angstpop, to catchy Electro Dark Wave/Post Industrial songs, Cyanbaal's music is diverse and unique. Releases from Cyanbaal will never sound boring or uniform.
Cyanbaal's songs tell small, quirky, or surreal stories. Initially, fragments of lyrics were used to create eerie, dreamlike images in the listener's mind. Now, the lyrics take up more space and are perfectly staged by the two very different singers.
In the black and white world of the wretched and lost figures of Cyanbaal, macabre, tragic and sometimes romantic lyrics dominate, but dark humorous allusions also resonate throughout.
Again and again, the listener encounters psychologically disturbed subjects, teetering on the edge of madness and the subconscious, reminiscent of Lovecraft's stories about cosmic horror or Tim Burton's fantastic magical worlds.
The stories are carried by, in part, brutal, cold song structures, hammering percussion, driving beats, underscored with dark, sometimes disturbing ambient sounds.
To achieve their somewhat unorthodox and unique approach, they use analog and digital synthesizers as well as samplers. Anything that integrates into the song structure or helps create the right imagery and mood is utilized.
Break through the veil of Cyanbaal and sink into a world of obscure sounds.n, Germany.
