Born in São Paulo, Brazil, to a Bulgarian-Jewish father and a German-Jewish mother who fled Munich at the start of WWII, Bassan moved to Israel at the age of four. Settling in Kiryat Gat, he later served in the Israeli Air Force Band, where he met his future T-Slam collaborators, Izhar Ashdot and Yair Nitzani.
T-Slam Era
Formed in 1980, T-Slam revolutionized the local music scene. Their debut album Radio Hazak (Loud Radio) introduced a high-energy, international hard rock sound to Israel. As the band's frontman, Bassan became a household name until their disbandment in 1983, a period captured in hits like "Tnu Li Rokenrol" and "Lir'ot Otah Ha-Yom."
Solo Career and "Darkenu"
Bassan’s solo career proved equally impactful. His 1986 self-titled debut, דני בסן, included the classic Kichlot Hakol Vehatmuna. In 1989, he released HaYeled Shebi, featuring the original recording of Darkenu (Our Way). Though later famous as a TV theme song, Bassan’s version remains a foundational pillar of Israeli music.

Beyond singing, Bassan is one of Israel's most prolific voice actors, providing the Hebrew dubbing for iconic characters in films like The Jungle Book (Baloo) and Garfield. In 2021, he fronted the massive "40 Years of Radio Hazak" anniversary tour with T-Slam, featuring landmark live collaborations with Shalom Hanoch. In 2025, he launched a special live project performing the works of legendary lyricist Yankale Rotblit, continuing to bridge the gap between classic Israeli poetry and modern rock.
