Biography

Diatheke is an American progressive melodic death metal band formed in 2018 and based in Dallas, Texas. Drawing together musicians from Texas, New York and Ontario, the band combines the technical intricacy and structural ambition of progressive metal with the melodic sensibilities and aggressive force of death metal. Their music is distinguished by elaborate compositions, dynamic vocal arrangements and a strong emphasis on Christian spirituality and biblical themes.

The band's sound balances intricate guitar work, prominent bass lines and complex rhythmic arrangements with harsh vocals and expansive melodic passages. Their progressive approach allows compositions to develop across extended structures, moving between aggressive death metal sections and more atmospheric, contemplative moments. Rather than treating technicality as an end in itself, Diatheke use their musical complexity to reinforce the emotional and spiritual dimensions of their songwriting.

Diatheke began releasing music in 2018 with the single “Bereavement,” followed by “Magnify” in 2020 and “Splendour” in 2021. These releases established the band's blend of progressive and melodic death metal while introducing the biblical narratives and reflections on faith that would become central to their identity. The band also released a cover of “Embraced” by Norwegian progressive metal band Extol in 2022, reflecting an affinity for the adventurous side of Christian extreme metal.

In March 2025, Diatheke released their full-length album ...And the Word Was God. Featuring tracks such as “The Promise,” “The Creator,” “The Redeemer” and “The Coronation,” the album expands their progressive metal framework through elaborate arrangements, orchestral elements and a narrative rooted in Christian theology. John Wesley composed and arranged the music, while the album's production involved Hunter Shaw for engineering and mixing and Sam Striker for mastering. An instrumental edition followed in March 2026.

With their fusion of progressive complexity, melodic death metal aggression and explicitly Christian lyrical themes, Diatheke occupy a distinctive place within the modern progressive metal underground, pursuing a sound that unites technical ambition with a deeply held spiritual vision.
