In 1694 he was part of the guild of musicians as a violinist. In the same period he was hired in the musical chapel of Montagnana . Later he became choirmaster.

From the numerous printed collections published in the period from 1689 to 1715, we can deduce the fame that the composer could have with the Venetian musical society.

In 1709 he was commissioned to compose the music for the celebrations of the Coronation of the Madonna Lauretana which were held in the Church of San Nicolò (Verona) . For this occasion he composed the oratorio "Esther Coronata" on the libretto of Count Luigi Nogarola Maffei . Thanks to the success obtained, Zanatta was appointed chapel master of the Verona Philharmonic Academy for four terms 1719, 1723, 1725, 1731.

In 1724 After the death of Bernardino Restelli , the chapter of Verona announced the competition for the role of choirmaster, following the resignation of the winner Don Girolamo Zanatta , son of Domenico. The competition was redone and this time Domenico Zanatta was appointed to cover the chair of musical direction of the Cathedral of Verona , as well as teaching the " cantus firmus " at the Scuola degli Acolytes . Roles he covered until his resignation for health reasons in 1746 .

From this period are the numerous manuscript compositions preserved in the Capitular Library of Verona , music for more in a double choir in the Venetian style and which were performed until 1800.

As a result of " chest pain and fever ", probably tuberculosis , Domenico Zanatta died on 5 August 1748 .
