Biography:
The band Dr.DOWNER started around 2004.
It might have been a little earlier, but founding member Narcy told me so.
Our founding members were me (Inomata), Hoshino, and Shiina Narcy.
I was on bass vocals, Hoshino on guitar, and Narcy on drums.
The band I was in before starting Dr.DOWNER was a band I'd been in since high school,
and Kei-chan, who would later join Dr.DOWNER on guitar, was in that band.
And if my memory is correct that Narcy started in 2004, Koishi took over from Narcy on drums in 2005.
And from then on, the three of us - Inomata, Hoshino, and Koishi - would share a strange band life together for almost 20 years.
The year after Koishi joined, Kei-chan joined on guitar.
Kei-chan joined another band after the band I was in before starting Dr.DOWNER ended. I remember it being a pretty popular band.
Then, after a while, that band broke up, so I asked Dr.DOWNER to join,
and he said OK, so Dr.DOWNER became a four-piece.
I've known Kei-chan since high school and we'd originally played in a band together, so I was really happy when he joined.
From there, I went from bass vocals to guitar vocals, and Hoshino went from guitar to bass, and the band continued.
In the meantime, we released on a major label, performed at various festivals, and did all sorts of things.
The environment surrounding the band wasn't bad at the time, but little by little, friction arose, and Kei-chan quit.
It was because of differences in musical style, but I remember thinking at the time, "Why now? We've been together since high school..."
After about a year with three members, in 2017, a girl named Yuucho joined as the guitarist.
Yuucho was the guitarist for a band that often appeared at Yokohama FAD.
At that time, in 2018, we released our first album in a while, played a lot of live shows, and the band was starting to get pretty good, but then COVID hit and it all felt like it was over.
We couldn't play live for a few years, and during that time Yuucho quit Dr.DOWNER.
But that's just the way things are in society, so it can't be helped - we're not ordinary people.
With some free time on my hands, I recorded Dr.DOWNER myself and produced an EP called "End Roll."
I did everything, including mixing, so it was a lot of work, but I think it was a very useful experience.
Around the time that recording was released, we added Funayama on guitar and resumed live shows.
Funayama was my junior at middle school, the same as Koishi. Our lineup is generally decided through connections with local bands and our main live houses.
Just when we thought things were settling down with Funayama on guitar, Koishi on drums quit.
But I wanted to continue as a band, so I met with Hoshino to discuss what to do, and I thought, if we were going to do it, there was no one else but him to play drums, so I asked Shomura.
Shomura was the drummer in a band called Mother Picorin, in which Hoshino was the guitarist and vocalist before Hoshino and I started Dr.DOWNER.
There were several drummers in that band, but I think Shomura was the one playing in the band around the time Dr.DOWNER started.
Shomura then agreed to take over, and Dr.DOWNER somehow managed to survive.
And so, since the end of 2024, the band has been active with Inomata on guitar and vocals, Hoshino on bass, Funayama on guitar, and Shomura on drums.
