Biography

Embodyment was an American Christian metal band formed in Arlington, Texas in the early 1990s. Originally starting under the name Supplication, the group began as a brutal death metal act before evolving into one of the earliest bands associated with deathcore on their 1998 debut album Embrace the Eternal. After Embrace the Eternal, the band underwent a major stylistic shift. Vocalist Kris McCaddon left the group, and with the addition of new singer Sean Corbray, Embodyment moved away from their old sound almost entirely. Their next album, The Narrow Scope of Things, featured influences from metalcoreon a select few tracks, containing screamed vocals, but was mostly a shift into the direction of a more alternative-metal and hard rock sound. Their next album, Hold Your Breath, leaned more into melodic hard rock and alternative rock influences. their final albumSongs for the Living, was a mix of Alternative and Indie Rock. After the band's dissolution in 2004, many went on to play in bands like The Famine and Demon Hunter. Although the band officially disbanded in 2004, Embrace the Eternal has continued to gain recognition for its influence on early deathcore and Christian extreme metal. In February 2011, the band released a five-song EP, Forgotten, consisting of un-released songs from the Songs for the Living era.
