Biography
Exposed to the groundbreaking electronic music scenes of Washington, D.C. and Baltimore in the early nineties, producer and multi-instrumentalist Empower (Joshua A. Alperstein) crafts an immersive sonic experience rooted in the primal power of rhythm. Over the decades, Alperstein came to realize that these profound musical movements shared deep, structural roots with ancient, rhythm-driven spiritual traditions—including Vodou, Santeria, Palo Mayombe, and Yoruba. He observed how these practices all centered on a core set of ritualistic elements: the gathering of a community for a shared tribal experience, primal drumming as a driving pulse, communal dance, and an eventual collective ascension to higher states of consciousness.
These foundational pillars of ceremony, order, and rhythm are what define every great musical experience Alperstein has ever encountered, and they serve as the ultimate creative catalyst driving his work as Empower. Guided by this ethos, his production style focuses on blending complex world elements with electronic foundations to forge a unifying, fusion-based dance sound for a global audience.

When outside the studio, Alperstein remains dedicated to passing down the craft, sharing his passion for electronic music by teaching his sons the arts of DJing and sound design on traditional synthesizers. Above all, his creative journey is fueled by the enduring love, inspiration, and support of his wife, who remains his ultimate foundation.
