Biography
Fange is a French band formed in Rennes, Brittany, in 2013. Initially rooted in sludge metal and harsh noise, the group incorporated death metal and hardcore before developing a more industrial sound built around drum machines, electronics and heavily distorted guitars. Their lyrics are written in French.
Founded by guitarist Benjamin Moreau of Huata, Fange released their debut EP, Poisse, in 2014, with its CD edition issued through Cold Dark Matter Records. Vocalist Matthias Jungbluth of Calvaiire joined in 2015. Their first full-length album, Purge, followed in 2016 through Throatruiner Records and Lost Pilgrims Records, combining sludge with Swedish death metal guitar tones, noise and crust influences. Subsequent releases included Pourrissoir (2017) and Punir (2019).

In late 2019, Fange replaced live drums with programmed percussion. Working as a trio of Moreau, Jungbluth and bassist Antoine Perron, they developed this approach on Pudeur (2020), bringing industrial rhythms further into their guitar-based sound. Poigne (2020) and Pantocrator (2021) continued this period of experimentation. Pantocrator consisted of two extended compositions and introduced a greater emphasis on post-punk-influenced guitars.
By Privation (2023), Fange had expanded to a quartet. The album incorporated cleaner guitar passages and influences from post-punk and cold wave alongside their distorted riffs and programmed rhythms. Perdition (2024) placed greater emphasis on death industrial loops and electronic arrangements, while retaining melodic guitars.
Purulences, released on 14 March 2025 through Throatruiner Records, returned to more guitar-led songwriting, combining death metal riffs and sludge passages with industrial percussion. Its credited line-up comprises Matthias Jungbluth on vocals, Benjamin Moreau on guitars and programming, Antoine Perron on bass, and Titouan Le Gal on guitars and machines.
