He is a former member of Creme Fresh which consisted of him and Keno who later joined Moop Mama.
Emerging from Munich's underground hip hop scene in the early 2000s, he has established himself as one of the most acclaimed figures in contemporary German-language rap. His work is characterized by intricate lyricism, irony, cultural references, and an ability to combine social and political commentary with autobiographical storytelling and humor.
Schneider was born and raised in Munich. He developed an interest in hip hop as a teenager during the late 1990s, inspired by both German and American rap. In 2000, while still in school, he co-founded the rap group Creme Fresh alongside Keno and producer Bustla. Over the following decade, the trio became a fixture of Munich's independent hip hop scene, releasing several EPs and four studio albums. Their final album, *Heute tanzt der Bär* (2011), marked the end of the group's eleven-year career.
During the same period, Schneider also became involved with the Munich-based brass collective Moop Mama, joining as one of its MCs shortly after the band's formation. The group's energetic combination of brass instrumentation, funk, and hip hop attracted growing attention on the German festival circuit. Fatoni left the ensemble in 2010 in order to concentrate on his own projects, though his time with Moop Mama influenced his approach to live performance and collaboration.
In parallel with his musical activities, Schneider pursued a career in acting. Between 2009 and 2013 he studied at the Otto Falckenberg School, one of Germany's most prestigious drama academies. Following his graduation, he worked as a stage actor at several German-speaking theatres, including the Munich Kammerspiele, Stadttheater Klagenfurt, and Staatstheater Augsburg. He has also appeared in television productions and feature films, balancing his work as an actor with his increasingly successful music career.
Fatoni released his first solo album, *Solange früher alles besser war*, in 2011. The record introduced many of the themes that would define his later work, including self-reflection, social observation, and satirical takes on everyday life. Although initially receiving modest commercial attention, it established him as an artist with a distinctive literary voice and laid the foundation for his later success.
A decisive turning point came through his collaboration with fellow rapper Edgar Wasser. The pair had already built a reputation through individual releases before joining forces for the collaborative album *Nocebo* in 2013. Praised for its dense lyricism, philosophical humor, and unconventional production, the album became a landmark within Germany's independent rap scene and significantly expanded Fatoni's audience.
His commercial breakthrough arrived with *Yo, Picasso* (2015), produced entirely by Dexter. The album entered the German album charts and received widespread critical acclaim. Reviewers praised its sophisticated writing, understated production, and willingness to explore themes rarely addressed in mainstream rap, including insecurity, alienation, ambition, consumer culture, and the contradictions of artistic success. The album is widely regarded as one of the defining German hip hop releases of the mid-2010s.
Fatoni continued to broaden his artistic range with *Alle Liebe nachträglich* (2017), a collaborative album with singer-songwriter Mine. Blending elements of hip hop, indie pop, electronic music, and chanson, the project demonstrated his versatility as both a lyricist and collaborator. Critics highlighted the record's emotional depth and its exploration of relationships, loneliness, and modern communication.
His fourth solo album, *Andorra* (2019), represented another creative milestone. Produced primarily by Dexter together with contributions from several other producers, the album combined personal narratives with observations on politics, media culture, capitalism, and contemporary German society. The title references Max Frisch's novel *Andorra*, reflecting Schneider's longstanding interest in literature and questions of identity. The record became his highest-charting solo release to date and further strengthened his reputation as one of Germany's most intellectually ambitious rappers.
In 2021, Fatoni reunited with Edgar Wasser for the collaborative album *Delirium*. Written during a period marked by the COVID-19 pandemic and increasing political polarization, the record explored uncertainty, conspiracy thinking, digital culture, and existential anxiety while maintaining the pair's characteristic wit and verbal complexity. Like their previous collaborations, the album was widely praised for its sophisticated lyricism and unconventional approach to hip hop.
His fifth solo album, *Wunderbare Welt*, followed in 2023. The album reflected on life in an era shaped by climate anxiety, social media, economic insecurity, and political instability while continuing to balance satire with vulnerability. Critics noted the record's broad musical palette and its combination of introspective songwriting with sharp cultural analysis.
Throughout his career, Fatoni has collaborated with a wide variety of musicians from different genres. Frequent collaborators include Edgar Wasser, Mine, Dexter, Juse Ju, Danger Dan, Dirk von Lowtzow, Betterov, Maeckes, and members of the Antilopen Gang. These collaborations reflect his openness to combining hip hop with indie rock, electronic music, jazz, and singer-songwriter traditions.
Beyond music, Schneider has remained active in broadcasting and cultural journalism. From 2015 until 2023 he hosted *Die Fatoni Show* on the Bavarian public youth radio station PULS, where he interviewed musicians, writers, comedians, and other cultural figures. The program reflected many of the interests that also shape his songwriting, including literature, politics, film, philosophy, and contemporary culture.
Fatoni's lyrics are noted for their extensive literary and philosophical references, complex wordplay, and understated humor. Rather than adopting the conventions of mainstream commercial rap, his work frequently addresses questions of identity, privilege, aging, relationships, mental health, consumerism, and political responsibility. Critics have often described his style as combining intellectual reflection with accessibility, balancing irony and self-deprecation with emotional honesty.
Over more than two decades, Fatoni has become one of the defining artists of Germany's independent hip hop movement. His ability to bridge rap, literature, theatre, and popular culture has earned him widespread critical recognition, making him one of the most distinctive and influential lyricists in contemporary German-language music.
