Biography

With a very peculiar style of composing, Fernando Pellon began his artistic career in 1974 at the age of 18. Despite not playing any musical instruments, he is the author of songs that feature unusual melodic results. Possessing a rare poetic-musical talent, he was cited by Aldir Blanc as a master of song and an “extraordinary” composer whose works are “unlike anything else out there pretending to be modern.”

From the late 1970s to the early 1980s, he was part of the Malta D’Areia collective of composers based in Niterói, which included Paulinho Lêmos, Roberto Bozzetti, Renato Calaça, Tunico Frazão, Fátima Lannes, Cássia Bonturi, and Paulinho Leitão. With this group, he staged various performances, including João Maus Costumes and Onde É Que Cabe Um Circo (a children's musical), in addition to producing the short film É Miquelina, Minha Mulher.

Pellon was born in Barbacena (MG) in 1956 but moved to Rio de Janeiro with his family at an early age. He became a Carioca at heart, adopting the "Marvelous City" as the inspiring backdrop for his songs. Since childhood, in Grajaú, a neighborhood in the city’s North Zone, he grew up in a home filled with Brazilian popular music, starting with 78 RPM records.

The repertoire was vast: baião, samba, bolero, and fox-trot, performed by the likes of Luiz Gonzaga, Orlando Silva, Sílvio Caldas, Angela Maria, Elizeth Cardoso, Ciro Monteiro, Miltinho, Isaurinha Garcia, Paulinho da Viola, and Martinho da Vila, among others. Additionally, his father was a friend of Sinval Silva, who performed in many serenades in the backyard of their home.
