Biography
In 1986 Jan Kuipers graduated from the Royal Conservatory of Den Haag mastering composition & music registration. Before Fluxury, Jan composed experimental modern pieces. Jan met bassplayer-lyricist Jos Witsenburg in 1987 in Leiden, where they studied chemistry. In 1995 they joined Workshop Soundscape Amsterdam (NPS, VPRO, Gaudeamus, IJsbreker, CEM studios), guiltlessly crossing the traditional non-music border of soundscape-art: their 7 minute piece Anagram is a sonata of sound-atoms.
The next 5 years were spent inventing a new mix of composed music & rock 'n' roll. Lunar escape velocity (2001) is the unhip endresult of this period of frank exploration & fun. Jan's remarkable & prolific talent is the source of Fluxury's finely crafted songs. The word 'Fluxury' comes from a poem by Jos about the emergence of rich structure from chaos, it turned into a Lunar escape velocity song.

Around that time Fluxury started to play live with a variety of musicians. Through the years the line-up changed to meet project needs. For 3 years Fluxury existed as a 7-person combo. The album Perishable goods captures their full-rockband dynamics. The 2005/6 winterseason project of 3 concerts with 5-person line-up, had a more intimate approach and concerts were supported by animated visuals.
Since 2007 Fluxury is again a quintet. They intend to play live again. Also the recording sessions for the 3rd album (part 2 of the 'End of privacy' suite) are ongoing.
