Biography

English Version

Gli Stranieri is a virtual musical collective created to explore the great themes of existential literature through the dramatic and complex sonic language of 1970s Italian Progressive Rock (RPI).

The project's name is a statement of intent inspired by Albert Camus' The Stranger: it represents the gaze of those who stand on the margins not out of apathy, but out of lucidity, rejecting easy consolations and prefabricated truths. The band's philosophy is founded on the themes of the Absurd, Revolt, and Solidarity, telling stories of individuals facing the unreasonable silence of the world.

The Sound

Gli Stranieri's aesthetic is based on conflict and the tension between opposing elements. Their sound fuses the gloomy grandiosity of Symphonic Prog (Mellotron, cathedral organs) with the rhythmic restlessness and intellectual complexity of Jazz-Rock and Avant-Garde. Rejecting polished, modern production, Gli Stranieri adopt a "raw" and analog sonic approach, characterized by tape saturation, dense and claustrophobic mixes, and a deliberately imperfect atmosphere ("lo-fi aesthetic"), where every hiss is a testament to a struggle. The dominant emotion is never triumphant, but permeated by deep unease and existential melancholy.

Key Works

[] La Forma dell'Assurdo (The Shape of the Absurd): A concept album based on Albert Camus' The Plague. A sonic journey spanning exile, the struggle against evil, and final awareness, moving between symphonic rock tracks, musique concrète interludes, and free-jazz experimentations.

[] Novella degli Scacchi (Chess Story): A three-movement suite inspired by Stefan Zweig's novella. The work traces the protagonist's psychological collapse through a transition from claustrophobic Dark Ambient, to the gothic Avant-Prog of "artificial schizophrenia," ending in an obsessive and mechanical Heavy Prog duel.
