Biography

Gravecrawler is a black/death metal band from Stockholm, Sweden, formed in 2019 by drummer Sebastian Olsson and guitarist Jesper Lindgren, later joined by vocalist Billy Lundevall and bassist Roni Iivonen.

Originally influenced by black/thrash metal, the band's sound gradually evolved toward a darker and more visceral fusion of Swedish death metal and second-wave black metal. Gravecrawler combine crushing riffs, blast beats, tremolo-picked melodies and filthy, distorted guitar tones with a vocal approach that moves between black metal screams and guttural death metal growls. Elements of slam and brutal death metal occasionally emerge within their heavier, mid-tempo passages.

The band's lyrics explore darkness, gore, myths and folklore, while their music often carries a grim, atmospheric and morbid character. Gravecrawler have described the second wave of black metal—including Darkthrone, Dissection, Emperor, Naglfar and Dark Funeral—as a major influence, while deliberately refusing to be confined to a single stylistic formula.

Following a series of releases including Chapter I: Abominations (2021), Chapter II: Blood Rites (2022), Chapter III: Fallen Kingdoms (2023) and The Horrors Unleashed (2023), Gravecrawler released their debut full-length, Nidus, independently in August 2026. The album's themes revolve around infestation, parasitism, the cycles of life and the corruption of worlds, further establishing the band's distinctive blend of blackened atmosphere, Swedish death metal brutality and filthy modern extremity.
