Biography
Gregorius Meyer (b c.1510 in Säckingen, - Nov. 1576 in Basel) was an organist and composer . Gregor Meyer had been the organist at St. Ursus in Solothurn since 1535. The monastery minutes of October 4, 1543 report that he received two benefices (CH-SOa collegiate monastery of St. Ursus, minutes 1527-1554, p. 251). However, his financial situation must not have been very satisfactory, because in April 1556 he tried to improve his benefice (protocol 1555-1595, p. 10) and in 1557 also applied for a benefice for his son David (ibid., p. 30 ). Gregor Meyer and his family had to leave the city in the summer of 1558 because of the obnoxious behavior of his son Hilarius (Protocol 1555–1595, p. 10). In 1561 he became organist at the Basel Minster and held this post until his death.
