Among the band's best-known songs are “32-18,” “Hardanger,” “Viagra, Biff og Bernaisesaus,” “Hiakktreff På Osterøy,” “Koffor Kan Ikkje Eg,” “Frøken” and “Bygdaslaur.” Several of their releases have received gold or platinum certifications in Norway.

Musically, Gunslingers combine American-influenced country with lyrics sung largely in the Hardanger dialect. Steel guitar, fiddle and electric guitar are prominent parts of their sound. Måkestad's lyrics often draw on life in rural Western Norway, relationships, partying, cars and local culture.

The band has toured extensively throughout Norway and has become a regular presence at Norwegian country festivals and other large live events. Their combination of country instrumentation, dialect lyrics and a distinctly Western Norwegian identity has given Gunslingers a recognizable place in the Norwegian country scene.
