Bil Basmala, aka Hasan Robinson, evolved onto the west coast underground hip - hop scene in 1998 with an L.A produced Record Usephasan - Chemistry Teraqueous (Pomo & Amani Smith). It wasn't until 2005 - 2010 did he finally come into his own with 6 additional records as Autolect, which included deep blues and abstract hip - hop rhymes.

"After Autolect, Between God And THe Deep Blue I took a giant step back and recorded with Fanatik (planet asia, rasco, stones throw) as The Mononauts. That Monoverse album is lyrically the penacal of what I was trying to articulate as an emcee. Though, there is still one more level I would like to achieve after that."

Hasan's diligent and unconventional works and process breaks the mold of what an emcee / producer should be. His distinct vision teeters on extraordinary and novel.

Now, his distinct production finds a home in LEFT FIELD. Yet still, not amongst a marketable atypical sound found in POPULAR music. Quirky drums, deep baselines and intense thick atmospheric textures cover each track. Bridging the ground from Hip - hop to electronic is not a an easy task. Though, Hasan finds a path through a deep eclectic field of jazz and blues.

His latest project "On The Edge Of Forever" contains the mentioned blends and strange mixes of styles.

"The production. Dusty. Intricate loops and samples. Hard jazz, deep funk sounds, but taken so far and so deep from the source as to be absorbed and transformed. From some alternate reality where Dolphy and Mingus invented the MPC and jazz never ended, kept on going."(elmattic)

"Since around 2009, I have been experimenting with this sound. I called it dubeclectric then. I wasn't interested in Reaching a wider audience then and it is not guaranteed now. but I am content with putting out records in a classic format. "Its kind of difficult without that in your face, big label machine pumping out your music. Yet, there is something to say about personal expression, Bil Basmala offers that with a solid intention and focus on other things outside of the self. That universal and un scene force influences what i am able to re-create."
