Biography
The Jaume Vilaseca Trio, led by the Barcelona-born pianist and composer (b. 1968), is a prominent Spanish jazz fusion ensemble. Since 2002, they have blended jazz roots with Latin rhythms, flamenco, and world music. They are internationally recognized for their acclaimed "Jazznesis" trilogy, in which they reinterpret the music of the progressive rock band Genesis. Key milestones in the project's history include: Origins and Training: Jaume Vilaseca trained at the Barcelona Municipal Conservatory, the Conservatori Liceu, and the Taller de Músics. In addition to his musical career, he holds a degree in Hispanic Philology from the University of Barcelona. Key Albums: After releasing *Aquí i allà* (2002) and *World Songs* (2005), the band established itself firmly. Their *Jazznesis* trilogy (begun in 2008 and concluded with *Jazznesis III* in 2019) transformed classic Genesis tracks—particularly from the Peter Gabriel era—into sophisticated Mediterranean and Latin jazz arrangements. International Tours: Their versatile instrumental style has led them to perform at major global events, including festivals in Colombia, China, Malaysia, Venezuela, and Belgium. Collaborations: In recent performances and recordings, the trio has featured their regular vocalist, Mar Vilaseca, as well as other distinguished artists from the European jazz and world music scenes.
