Biography

Kimber Benton, the songwriter of Jem and the Holograms hit singles and keyboard player, felt she was being held back from her true potential by her older sister, Jerrica Benton. Kimber left the Holograms to pursue her own solo career.

Kimber bumped into Stormer (Mary Phillips) one night at a night club in the city. Stormer, the keytar player in the girl band The Misfits, also just left her group due to being mistreated. After The Limp Lizards finished their set at the club, an MC asked if Kimber & Stormer would perform a song together. Both parties were hesitant at the start but the roaring crowd got them up on stage. Stormer's lead was perfect for Kimber's new lyrics to "I'm Okay".

A manager was there at the club that night and signed both Benton and Phillips to make a full length record. Both The Holograms and The Misfits urged their former members to not make the record, claiming the other was a bad influence on the other. Kimber and Stormer didn't listen and headed into the studio together. Halfway through the recording process, their manager flaked on them. Jerrica Benton and the rest of the Holograms helped by stepping in to complete the album. If the album wasn't completed, Kimber would lose her ownership of Starlight Music (the record company behind Jem and the Holograms).

The duo's album was titled, "Back 2 Back". It was very successful but both girls missed their former groups. The Holograms even offered Stormer a position as the 6th Hologram but she turned it down. Kimber and Stormer still remain close friends even though their bands continued to revival each other through the late 1980s.
