Biography

Born Aline Christophe on April 20, 1972, in Saint-Claude, Guadeloupe , Lady Laistee moved to the Paris region (mainland France) to be with her family at the age of five. Her father was an alcoholic who beat his wife; he even went so far as to rape Aline in a parking lot in Sarcelles when she was 16. She later told her school counselor, and he was sentenced to 10 years in prison. In the early 1990s, she was swept up in the hip-hop wave that was taking France by storm. Her name, Laistee, is a play on the French slang word "stylée" (stylish). She began rapping with the collective "Le Complot des Bas Fonds" alongside artists such as Fabe , Koma ( Scred Connexion ), LSO , and Sleo . She notably appeared on Cool Sessions 2 's Jimmy Jay and on the compilation album L432 .

On June 13, 1996 Aline learned of the death of her brother Rudy, who was shot. In her first album, * Black Mama *, released in 1999, she pays tribute to him in the hit song "Et si…?" produced by Sully Sefil ( Koalition ). "Et si…?" was among the best-selling rap albums of the year, with over 250,000 singles sold. On this debut album, she collaborated with JoeyStarr 's ( NTM ) label, BOSS. Around the same time, she gave birth to her daughter, Léa. She has collaborated with several French rappers such as Dadoo ( KDD ), Kery James ( Ideal J ), Busta Flex (" Demande toi - Double Face 3"), D.Dy and Sir Samuel ( Saïan Supa Crew ), as well as singers Lynnsha, Diam's, and Princess Lover. She is also among the artists targeted by MC Jean Gab'1 in his track "J't'emmerde" .
