Biography

MISAMO is a Japanese girl group and the first official sub-unit of South Korean girl group TWICE. Formed by JYP Entertainment, the trio consists of TWICE's Japanese members MINA, SANA and MOMO, whose names combine to form the group's title. Since their debut, MISAMO has become one of the most successful Japanese units to emerge from the K-pop industry, blending J-pop, dance-pop, R&B and contemporary pop influences.

Prior to their debut as MISAMO, MINA, SANA and MOMO gained international recognition as members of TWICE, one of the best-selling and most influential girl groups of all time. The three members originally appeared on Mnet's survival program SIXTEEN in 2015, where they earned spots in TWICE's final lineup. Over the following years, the trio became particularly popular in Japan, contributing significantly to TWICE's success in the country's music market.

Masterpiece (2023)

MISAMO officially debuted on 26 July 2023 with their first extended play, Masterpiece. The release showcased a more mature and sophisticated image than much of TWICE's earlier work, highlighting the members' vocals, performance skills and individual artistry.

The EP was preceded by the single Marshmallow and featured the title track Do not touch, which drew inspiration from themes of elegance, confidence and self-worth. Additional tracks included Bouquet, originally released as the theme song for the Japanese television drama Liaison: Children's Heart Clinic. Upon release, the project received positive reviews and achieved strong commercial success in Japan.

Ahead of the EP's release, the group held the "MISAMO Japan Showcase 2023" in Osaka and Yokohama. The showcase attracted extraordinary demand, selling approximately 40,000 tickets from more than 600,000 applications, demonstrating the trio's popularity even before their official debut.

HAUTE COUTURE (2024)

MISAMO released their second extended play, HAUTE COUTURE, on 6 November 2024. Inspired by luxury fashion, elegance and individuality, the project further expanded the group's sophisticated image while incorporating elements of dance-pop, electropop and contemporary Japanese pop music.

The album was supported by the title track Identity, which explored themes of self-expression and confidence. Critics and fans praised the project's polished visuals, refined production and artistic growth, while the release further established MISAMO as a successful act independent from TWICE's activities.

Following the release, the trio continued promotional activities in Japan, strengthening their reputation as one of the country's most prominent female pop groups.

PLAY (2026)

On 21 November 2025, TWICE's official Japanese channels announced MISAMO's first full-length studio album, PLAY. Released on 4 February 2026, the album marked a major milestone in the group's career, becoming their first project to exceed the mini-album format.

The album expanded upon the musical and visual identity established through Masterpiece and HAUTE COUTURE, further showcasing the trio's versatility as performers and recording artists. The project represented a new chapter for MISAMO as they continued to develop a distinct artistic identity separate from their work as members of TWICE.

Outside of MISAMO, MINA, SANA and MOMO remain active members of TWICE, balancing the group's Korean and Japanese activities while pursuing opportunities as a unit. Their success has been widely credited with helping strengthen the relationship between the Japanese and Korean music industries and demonstrating the growing global influence of K-pop artists in Japan.
