Biography

Meaghan Burke is a cellist and singer and songwriter of many hats. After a long and fruitful 4 years in Vienna, Austria and a brief but inspiring hermitage studying with Bernard Greenhouse in Wellfleet, Massachusetts, she has come back to her roots in New York.

Meaghan writes quirky, festively dark songs, part art, part pop, with witty, macabre lyrics and killer riffs. With influences from Billie Holiday to Bartok, from Tom Waits to Tom Cora, she tells stories of broken hearts, borrowed identities, and bedbugs.

In Vienna, Meaghan spent her days pursuing a Masters in classical cello, and her nights with such wildcat combos as Cheating on New York, (with Rai Benson) a blues-cabaret-self-help two-woman-show chronicling two New York women's struggles in the Big Schnitzel; Loose Lips Sink Ships, a singer-songwriter collective with the gorgeous songs and voices of Werner Kitzmüller, David Schweighart, Simon Usaty, Mimu, and Matthias Frey; Rash, a fiery cello-double bass liaison (with Bernd Klug) in which murmurs erupt into spastically explosive grooves which implode on themselves; Primordial Undermind, a relentless psychedelic free rock journey, and many others.

She just released her debut solo album, "Other Peoples´ Ghosts," now available on CDbaby and iTunes! Please buy it! Or if you are a label, adopt it and sell it to more people!
