Biography

Meryl Streek is the solo project of a Dublin-born Irish musician, producer and spoken-word artist. Raised in a working-class family of independent screen printers, Streek grew up around punk music and was influenced from an early age by his father, a drummer who played in Dublin punk band Guernica. He began playing drums himself as a teenager and spent around 15 years touring with punk and psychedelic bands in Ireland and North America before starting his solo project.

After moving to Canada, Streek began producing music independently using Ableton, combining electronic production with punk, spoken word, hip-hop and elements of Celtic music. Much of his debut album, 796, was recorded in his Vancouver apartment before he returned to Dublin to complete the vocals. The record's sound also reflects influences from Mogwai, Tortoise and DJ Shadow, alongside the anarcho-punk of Crass and Rudimentary Peni.

Released in 2022 on Venn Records, 796 established Streek's confrontational blend of electronic music, post-punk, abrasive noise and spoken word, while addressing subjects including the Catholic Church, inequality, addiction and Irish politics. His subsequent releases include If This Is Life (2023), Songs For The Deceased (2024), 796 - The Instrumentals (2025) and Stories They Don't Teach You At School (2026). His live performances have taken him from small Dublin squat shows to festival stages and venues including London's Kentish Town Forum.
