Biography
Minus 103 is a collaboration between veteran Experimental/Ambient composers - Steve Coxe and David Barnes. Coxe and Barnes started collaborating in 1986. Since then they have worked together in many projects including ‘Bastard Finders’, ‘Post’, and currently ‘Minus 103’. Both of these composers have won numerous competitions, grants and fellowships for their musical work. Steve Coxe makes his living teaching music, composing, doing music festivals, and performing as a modern classical pianist. He performs many of the keyboard tracks on "Minus 103" as well as playing some percussion and bass guitar. Barnz is an accomplished guitarist and percussionist, playing both of these instruments on "Minus 103" as well as some of the keyboards. Barnz is also responsible for much of the engineering, mixing and editing of their project.
Together, their compositional style combines multitrack improvisation with extensive editing, tweaking and subtracting to create a collection of experimental works that are both accessible background listening, as well as an intense headphones experience.
