Biography
Modern Woman are a dynamic London-based art-rock and experimental post-punk band. Led by frontwoman and primary songwriter Sophie Harris, the group blends literary-inspired lyricism with elements of folk, avant-garde noise, and rhythmic urgency. They have made a significant mark on the UK alternative music scene with their atmospheric and volatile sound.
Modern Woman originated as the intimate solo songwriting project of Sophie Harris, an English literature graduate who initially performed her poetry-focused lyrics at spoken-word nights she hosted. The project soon expanded into a full band when she met composer and violinist David Denyer. The lineup was cemented with the addition of Juan Brint-Gutiérrez on bass and saxophone, and Adam Blackhurst on drums. Together, they developed a reputation for intense live performances that blur the lines between folk, noise, and post-punk.
