Biography

Mothé (pronounced 'moth') is the solo alternative pop and electronic music project of Los Angeles-based singer, songwriter, producer, and multi-instrumentalist Spencer Fort (they/she). Originally from Houston, Texas, Fort previously played in the band Moth Wings and served as a touring guitarist for bands like The Wrecks. In 2019, they relocated to Los Angeles to establish Mothé as a deeply personal outlet for independent storytelling, vulnerability, and artistic freedom.

Mothé debuted with the 2020 EP Cindi, followed by the 2021 EP Summer's Almost Gone. Collaborating closely with producer Robert Adam Stevenson, Fort released the debut full-length album, I Don't Want You To Worry Anymore in April 2022 via their co-founded independent label, Slowlab Records. Driven by hit singles like "Debt Collector," the record featured a gentle, hazy, guitar-forward blend of indie pop and bedroom rock centered on identity and healing.

Following the EP Is Anyone Having Fun?, Mothé underwent a major sonic pivot. Their third major project, the album Total Popstar (released in August 2025), marked a shift from bedroom indie to gritty, synth-heavy club and dance music. Heavily influenced by Fort's real-life immersion as a DJ in LA's underground rave scene, the record features electronic tracks like "CLAW," "YOUR ORBIT," and "BEAT, DRUGS, SEX, LOVE".

Beyond their solo career, Mothé is an active producer and collaborator within the indie and alternative scene. They have produced music for artists such as Indigo De Souza, The Wrecks, Johnnie Guilbert, and Moontower. Fort frequently tours across the US, sharing stages as a supporting act for Microwave, Bears in Trees, and Indigo De Souza.
