Biography

Palfy Gróf is a Polish rock band hailing from Zakopane, deeply intertwined with the local Stanisław Ignacy Witkiewicz Theatre (the Witkacy Theatre). Their music is an uncompromising fusion of rock and alternative sounds, featuring lyrics written by one of Poland’s most eccentric artists – Witkacy. However, you can forget about the typical, mellow style of "sung poetry." Palfy Gróf delivers these texts with a fierce rock edge, fueled by energy and rebellion.

The band's name is a direct nod to the work of their "patron." It comes from Witkacy's poem To Miss Mery, which concludes with the lines: "Let the courtesans and Palfy Gróf turn pale with envy."

While the Hungarian Pálffy counts were among the wealthiest families in Central Europe at the turn of the 20th century, the musicians also point out with a smile that the name is phonetically similar to the English word "groove." This catchy, rhythmic pulse perfectly captures the essence of their musical style.
