Biography
Parquét is a music project with a focus on combining astonishing indie melodies with the textural depths of genres such as Shoegaze. What makes the sound of this release special is definitely the fact that it sets the bar higher with a really great production. “Ciudad Norte” has a punchy and distinctive tone, yet there is a lot of room for the artist’s most atmospheric soundscapes to actually come through. Ultimately, the song has a really warm and organic sound, which really allows the natural dynamics of the performance to shine.
Parquét shines for the versatility of the project’s sound, and what’s special about their music is the fact that when listening, it gives you that kind of “anything can happen” feel. I love it when artists channel so many different ideas, and this is definitely the case here. The song kicks off with a beautiful guitar melody, and it sets the bar higher with a simple, yet melodically rich arrangement. The drums are roomy and dynamic, with a beautiful and soft cymbal tone, almost adding like a pad of sounds. The lyrics in Spanish are hypnotic and a very natural match with this type of music. The song’s production is beautiful, and the dreamy, yet raw quality of the band’s performance reminds me of acts like Slowdive or Swervedriver, but with a more nuanced approach. What really stands out in terms of production is the guitar sound: it’s crystal clear, but also quite warm, never brittle. The bass is deep and full, perfectly locking in with the drums, and giving the mix a very forward attitude.
