Biography
People Skills is the longstanding project name for the solo audio recordings of Samuel B. Aaens (b. 1985).
Beginning in Philadelphia, United States in the mid-2000s, Aaens documented experimental improvisations in song and sound collage, utilizing only found and freely available materials. These recordings typically take the form of simple songs that use slow pop structures to parody conventional music. The conceptual framework draws on deconstructive situationist, post-structural, and Fluxus theories, exploring the intersection between art and amateurism. Consequently, the project is characterized more by a subtle sense of unease than by adherence to any specific genre.
