Biography
Peter Stampfel, of the legendary 60s psych-folk band The Holy Modal Rounders, is one of the strangest and most wonderful and colorful characters you are likely to meet. He is who-knows-how-old now, but is still as spry, fiery, inventive, absurdist and captivating as he ever was. His knowledge of folk music is so impressive that he actually wrote the liner notes for the completely essential Smithsonian Folk Anthology box set (and won a Grammy for his efforts), as well as the liner notes for the massively popular Karen Dalton CD reissues of a few years back (he was a friend of hers) and other such stuff. The Holy Modal Rounders even famously contributed to the quintessential 60s soundtrack of Easy Rider...and he was a member of the Fugs too !
Jeffrey Lewis leads a double-life, as both a comic book writer/artist and a musician (or is that a triple-life?). His band Jeffrey Lewis & The Junkyard have toured the world with the likes of Stephen Malkmus & The Jicks, Devendra Banhart, Devo, The Mountain Goats, Thurston Moore, The Fall, Roky Erickson, Pulp, Beth Orton, Frank Black, Daniel Johnston, The Moldy Peaches, Cornershop, The Cribs, Kimya Dawson, The Television Personalities, and many others. Live shows often incorporate "low budget videos," Jeffrey’s large illustrations displayed to accompany certain songs, such as Jeff's educational multi-part "History of Communism" or flights of fancy like "The Creeping Brain." He has released six albums on Rough Trade, been self-publishing a comic book series called "Fuff" since 2004, has lectured around the world on topics such as the Watchmen comic book and independently produced music, and in recent years his work has been featured by the History Channel, the New York Times, the Guardian, NPR, and elsewhere...

"A founding member of the Greenwich Village beatnik/folk outfit the Holy Modal Rounders, Stampfel is steeped in the jargon of the 1960s (how many other musicians reminisce about "my ex-old lady, who was a psychedelic guide"?), yet he and Lewis complement each other wonderfully. Although Lewis's name has sold the tickets, it's a gig of equals. [...] they are quite a duo, this mismatched but perfectly compatible pair of New Yorkers." -The Guardian
