Biography
Retimbrar is a Porto-based musical collective formed in 2008 by Uruguayan musician Andrés “Pancho” Tarabbia. Inspired by Portugal’s traditional instruments and folk heritage, the group was created to revive and innovate Portuguese traditional music, initially bringing together around 15 local musicians in Espinho.
Over the years, Retimbrar has evolved from a community workshop into a dynamic ensemble blending percussion, strings, and vocals. They incorporate instruments such as adufe, trécula, brinquinho, cavaquinho, and bandolim, fusing traditional sounds with contemporary improvisation. By 2024, the group had streamlined to 8 core members.
