Biography
Roody is an Iranian rapper, MC, and multidisciplinary artist from Tehran. She began rapping at 15 and emerged from Iran’s underground hip-hop scene with a raw, uncompromising style rooted in Persian-language lyricism. She treats hip-hop as a global artistic language while using her own experience of Tehran and Iranian society as material. Her work explores alienation, repression, womanhood, resistance, and the tensions of everyday life under constraint. As a female rapper working within Iran’s restrictions on women’s music and performance, her very presence in the scene carries a measure of defiance. Roody's music has been featured internationally, including through the Goethe-Institut’s Awaaz project and the Woman, Life, Freedom movement.
