Biography

Solo 5 was a Mexican pop band formed by Anais, Mar, Judith, Josué and Ángel back in 2002. They all met when participating at the Mexican version of Operación Triunfo. Despite none of them won, they decided to star a pop and together and that's how the band was born.

★Going for Adds: This debut album, "Más y Más" was released in 2003, it contained the hit single, "Más y Más" which became a popular song at the clubs and on the radio and the second single, "Arroja las Palabras" failed to make an impact on radio, although it managed to gather a few dozen of spins during the first 3 weeks of radio impact, it never went for adds on Mexican Top 40 radio, after "Más y Màs" having gone for Adds a few months prior, but without good Audience Impressions points. The song was quickly taken off the Light Rotation by a couple of National Radio Stations that did spin the song at key times during the day, even then audience impressions % were not enough for programmers to continue and for them to kill the 'going for adds' campaign. ★Never for Adds (second single, the Aleks Syntek penned "Arroja las Palabras" loses the slight momentum that the first single has gathered after having gone for radio adds): At this point the album having been released and for sale for at least 4 months, the group doing promotional Autograph-Signing appearances separately and individually on different cities through out Mexico, and the audience getting in line to get their autograph would end up taking down and stealing the promotional Posters/Flyers for the Event off the restaurant walls, and would get in line to get those Flyers Autographed. Even though the group would have their CD for sale on every promotional stop, and they would bring CD copies to be sold in case the local stores did not have their CD in stock, the "fans" instead of buying a CD from the signing desk and have that CD be autographed by any of the members, would approach the signing desk with the stolen flyers instead, signaling the ultimate fate of the group's only album, and of the group itself as well. A commercial failure that signaled the end for the well intended, and energetic although very uneven and unmistakenly manufactured tropipop/bubblegum pop/lip-synch-core charismatic ensemble, Sólo 5. Relegated to appearances of Vida TV, where they had to withstand the ridicule and mocking of the show's guests, the groups tenure with daytime fame-dom was more short lived than the time they took to create it (lose the extra pounds, learn to lip-synch, practice dance moves). The record company never even gave neither of the 2 songs released as singles, proper music videos to be broadcast on Telehit or Ritmoson Latino.

Unfortunately, due to the lack of promotion and low sales, the group disbanded and no more music was released.
