From an early childhood, Jay was introduced to some of the most eclectic and unusual music by his dad Stephen ranging from Seventies Dub and Reggae to the more experimental side of music from Can to Captain Beefheart. Listening to tapes of the John Peel show on Sunday Evenings, followed by tapes of On the Wire with Steve Barker, Jay began recording and experimenting at the tender age of seven. An old hi-fi stack and Tandy Microphone provided hours of recording entertainment, some of which are archived and can still be heard today.
