Biography
Shroud of the Heretic is an American occult death metal band (with strong doom influences) from Portland, Oregon, formed in 2011 (with activity dating back to around 2009). They craft dark, atmospheric, and crushing death metal rooted in the Incantation-style tradition mixed with doom heaviness.
The band emerged from the Pacific Northwest underground, delivering cavernous, sludgy, and atmospheric death metal with occult themes, darkness, and evil. Their sound features slow, heavy riffs, doom-laden atmospheres, melodic touches reminiscent of Finnish death metal (Purtenance, Demigod), and a raw, murky production. Key members have included Thom (bass/vocals, Sempiternal Dusk) and JT (guitar, Symptom). They were active in the 2010s, releasing material on labels like Iron Bonehead and Necroshrine, and have been somewhat on hold or low activity in recent years.
