Biography

Social Oddities started in the spring of 2009 with singer/guitarist Wynton Huddle and old drummer Mary Yoder jamming in her basement, shortly followed by Matt Harris joining in by picking up and quickly learning the bass as they progressed. The name 'Social Oddities' was decided since they were all strange little kids in the school of Manheim, Pennsylvania. Fitting in yet not fitting in at all, and they fully accepted their strangeness. Over time the songs became more and more well put together until Wynton's father, Grant Huddle joined in on the drums. It created a wonderful concoction of experimentation, varying from Hardcore Punk, Psychedelic, Blues, Alternative, Funk, and even some soft jazz in there!

They continued to build an ever growing audience by playing all sorts of outside-the-box songs influenced by god-knows-what such as "Used Tissues for Sale" "Germaphobe" and "Dust N' Bones" wherever they can across Lancaster county. Watching them perform it's hard not to feel bouncy and want to dance with Wynton Huddle jumping around all over the stage with his natural showmanship and giddy stories. Enthusiastic expressive vocals rough or as smooth as he pleases, the unique catchy basslines of Matt Harris using various techniques such as Wa-Wa basslines and fretless/Upright basses, and the tight metronome-like drumming of Grant Huddle's strong jazz and swing influence creates a wonderous playground of sound.

After Matt left the band, Devin Gilfillan joined as lead guitar, and helped it turn into something more different and unique then it ever was before. With his passionate leads, complimentary rhythms and odd social vibes, he became an essential that we loved to have at the end.

Social Oddities played their last show 12/30/2011 at the Senorita Burrita, since Wynton felt it just wasn't Social Oddities without Matt. The majority of the set list was new songs and new sounds, some from Wynton's Solo album.

You look sexy when you're weird.
