Tómarúm
Biography
Tómarúm (Icelandic for “empty space” or “void”) is an American progressive blackened metal band from Atlanta, Georgia, formed in 2017. They are known for intricate, emotionally charged, and atmospheric compositions that blend progressive structures, black metal intensity, death metal heaviness, and melodic/post-metal expansiveness.
Originally a duo of multi-instrumentalists Kyle Walburn and Brandon Iacovella, the band expanded into a full quintet around 2022. Their music explores themes of struggle, inner meaning, emotions, depression, anxiety, loss, and personal transformation, often with a spiritually charged, introspective viewpoint. The sound features complex songwriting, dynamic shifts between harsh aggression and ethereal beauty, technical guitar work, atmospheric layers, and strong vocal performances (mixed harsh and melodic). Influences include Ne Obliviscaris, Opeth, An Abstract Illusion, and classic progressive/extreme metal.
