Biography
Tandy & Morgan (sometimes Tandy Morgan) was the pairing of British musicians Richard Tandy (born 26 March 1948; died 1 May 2024) and Dave Morgan (aka David Scott-Morgan, born David Raymond Morgan on 19 August 1942). The pair released the album "Earthrise" in 1986. Also see the EP "Action" by The Tandy Morgan Band (sometimes Tandy Morgan Band) and "The B.C. collection" by Tandy Morgan Smith.
The pair met in the late 1960s when Tandy joined The Uglys, a group that also featured Morgan. Having recorded demo songs for about 15 years, their first record was released at the end of 1984. They called themselves R & D (which is either "research & development" or Richard & Dave" - they are themselves not sure which) and released the single "Berlin". The end of 1985 saw the recordings of an album under the new name Tandy & Morgan for FM Records. The album "Earthrise", a spacey concept album of science fiction themes, was completely written by Morgan, who again sang all the lead vocals, with Tandy bringing in some of his ideas by arranging the keyboard parts (which might explains the album's reminiscence to E.L.O.'s "Time", a concept album released in 1981). Earth Rise was produced in Los Angeles by Steve Lipson and eventually released on vinyl in 1986 on the FM Revolver label (in 1992, Morgan released the album on CD). Though received with enthusiasm by E.L.O. fans, Earth Rise was not a commercial breakthrough.

In early 1986 the pair formed The Tandy Morgan Band with Martin Smith (the latter from ELO's live shows) so all three could work together. The trio recorded a charity single "Action" under the production of Jeff Lynne. Composed and sung by Morgan, like the three other tracks, which were, except "Action (Instrumental)" produced by the band themselves.
When interviewed by the editorial board of the E.L.O. fanclub, the pair were asked if they had "any music that's never been released". They did, and in 1987, this resulted in the release of "The B.C. collection", a collection of songs recorded between 1985 and 1987 by Richard Tandy, Dave Morgan, and bass player Martin Smith. The album, by Tandy Morgan Smith, contains the original version of the song "Hiroshima", which was a hit in Germany in 1971 for the band Wishful Thinking. In 1990, German singer Sandra's version had a #4 hit in Germany.
