Biography
The Chemical Mind is a Chicago-based avant-garde metal project created by Gretchen Autumn Krueger in 2013. What started as a foray into the atmospheric, shoegaze-tinged black metal trend of the early 2010s has, across three EPs and four full-length albums, morphed into something much harsher and more experimental. The Chemical Mind's first three albums, unbeknownst to Krueger at the time, reflected the inner life of a closeted trans woman immersed in a fundamentalist Christian upbringing, and as a result, took on a darker tone with each subsequent release. This quasi-narrative culminates in the project's newest album Nachträglichkeit; Or, The Onset Of Relief, released in April 2026.
