Biography

The Son of P.M. was a mid-1960s Thai band that featured Kabuon Mukeda on electric organ, Subin Muangchuang on lead guitar, Udom Keanaem on bass guitar, Don Downvadeung and Krungohon Kumpleamohit on drums, Sothorn Stithom on xylophone, Choompoll Spinual on accordion, and Phayung Mukeda (also spelled Payong Mukda) as conductor. Together, they performed dynamic instrumental renditions of traditional Thai music, reinterpreted through the distinctive sounds of electric guitar and Farfisa organ.

Payong Mukda, born in the Ratchaburi Province of Thailand, led the Thai genre of music known as "shadow music" in the mid-1960s (referencing the UK band The Shadows). Mukda also went by Pocket Music (a.k.a. P.M. Pocket Music) and later The Son of P. M. (Thai: เดอะซันออฟพีเอ็ม). He was awarded with the prestigious "National Artist of Thailand" award in 1991. In February of 2010, Mukda died at the age of 84.
