Biography

Tiza is also the name of a Chilean vocal quartet that had a brief but widely recognized career in the early 1970s. The group included among its members Carlos Narea, who would later become known as a member of the group Santiago and as a prominent producer in Spain. Tiza was founded by Roberto Espinoza, a former member of Clan 91, and their hits included the songs “Juventud” and “Amor de temporada”.

The group's first lineup included siblings Paula and Carlos Narea (children of the well-known Myriam von Schrebler, from the duo Sonia y Myriam), who, together with their cousin Claudia Vidal, briefly joined Espinoza. The most important lineup, however, was the one that included Michelle Astaburuaga and María Luisa Souza.

Shortly after releasing their first record, Juventud (1972), the group decided to settle in Madrid, Spain, and seek better opportunities there. They travelled in January 1973 with a contract signed with Columbia, and soon recorded a second album and performed at several festivals around the Mediterranean. However, the partnership did not last much longer, and the group disbanded at the end of 1973. According to Espinoza, Tiza “marked a milestone for romantic music in Chile and significantly influenced the groups that followed”. Their main songs can be found on the compilation La historia de Tiza...
