Tyranoid/Strongstream is a producer and live act duo from Helsinki, Finland. Techno, Hard NRG, Acid, Freeform and Industrial describe their sound, but rather it’s an on-going exploration for new sounds and influences: this hard dance fusion has to be heard, not explained, and preferably live.
‘Tyranoid vs Michael Strongstream’, this is what they were initially called, made their first track in 2003, and the first gig followed in 2005. Now they have played alongside all the major hard dance artists in Finland and with many from abroad (and on main stages with prime time play slots, not just as a side-stage starting act). Their tracks have been released on vinyl, CD and digital by labels like FINRG, Stay Up Forever Projects, Scythe Squadron and Kreatrix.

No duo is an island. They are part of FINRG recording label, the leading community of hard electronic music artists in Finland. In addition to the FINRG musicians such as Carbon Based, their music has been influenced by artists like Hardfloor, The KLF, Kraftwerk, Lab4, Ministry and Prodigy. In the formative juvenile years they used to like metal music, and from there a natural transition to industrial music took place. Finally, after some excellent raves in Lepakko, Kaapelitehdas and other legendary venues of the turn of the millennium, the final turn to hard dance fandom was unavoidable. Back in the good days they were also inspired by performances of energetic DJs such as Proteus and Neon, and now incorporate similar energy in their live sets.

For the amusement of the audiences, they are never afraid to experiment with self-orchestrated instrument and controller systems (which usually function properly), or with the fiercest new dance moves. An element of geekiness makes a duo rock. Tyranoid is a trained expert of audio-visual stuff and works in broadcasting when not a techno superstar. He could do hard dance studio engineering for living, though; if one could do it for living. Strongstream, in turn, explores human-computer interaction issues in the non-hard-dance-messiah life and has developed an enthusiasm for controllerism, that is, the art of messing with hardware onstage.
